Special Educational Needs and Disability

SEND and SENCO

Sunshine Community nursery is an inclusive setting. We believe all children should thrive in an environment which is accessible and inclusive, providing a positive learning experience and high outcomes for all children.

Sunshine provide specialist care to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Sunshine has a nursery SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) who is highly trained to support each child. The nursery SENDCO works closely with key workers, children, parents and external agencies to provide Individual Education Plans (IEP's), train staff and liaise with professionals.

Suitable and accessible for all

Sunshine ensure all areas of learning are suitable and accessible for all children, regardless of any additional needs. Each child with any additional need will receive an individually planned and systematically monitored arrangement of teaching and care procedures, which have adapted equipment and materials within accessible areas. We have policies and procedures in place to support children with additional needs. We review these regularly ensuring all our resources and environments are suitable and accessible for all whilst achieving the best outcome and nursery experience for your child.

We've been awarded the “scope quality inclusion” accreditation.

We are proud to announce Sunshine Community nursery has been awarded the “scope quality inclusion” accreditation. We have been inspected and awarded the scope quality assurance mark meaning our practices are inclusive for all.

Sensory room

At Sunshine we are lucky to have an abundance of space and a specialist “sensory room”. This space is used for 1:1 sessions for children with additional needs but also for all children to access for some quiet and sensory exploration time.
